In most Arab countries, local Chambers of Commerce are involved in all commercially related transactions. The JEDDAH CHAMBER of COMMERCE is no exception. In fact, its jurisdiction covers perhaps the most active territory in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on account of the large number of international visitors to the Muslim holy lands of Mekkah and Medina. As most official business documents have to be certified at some time by the JCCI, this official certification is a payable service with extended security issues associated with it; as such, it attracts the attention of counterfeiters not only in the ‘black’ market but also bears a second-hand market value. At the recommendation of the Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom, JCCI decided to introduce a state-of-the-art technological solution for the authentication at the point-of-issue of all its certifications with the use of hot-stamped OVDs. TAURUS SecureSolutions was selected to be the provider of this integrated protection of the official documents of the JCCI and a large number of CAVOMIT HOLO@STAMPER units were initially installed at various locations in the city. All individual stations are remotely linked to the main frame computers of JCCI and, once a filed application has been established as genuine, a high-security OVD patch is hot-stamped on the individual document certifying its authenticity.
This method of certification has been proven very successful as the incorporation of the OVD on the document surface combined with over-printed text resulted in practically eliminating attempts to compromise these documents. The scope of the program is already expanding in other geographical areas whilst extra HOLO@STAMPER units (8) were installed at the end of 2006 in order to respond to increased demand. The demand continued to increase in the following years resulting to the gradual acquisition of 22 more units which led to a total of 53 installed units until the middle of 2015. Later in 2015 two (2) more units of the new model CAVOMIT HOLO@STAMPER PLUS were acquired raising the number of installed units to a total of 55.
